Residents in the town said they saw dead bodies of ten soldiers, Police DPO, DCO and thirteen rank and file.A resident said that the militants ambushed the soldiers and killed ten of them in their camp at Ten Housing Estate. Adding that one House was razed down to ashes.
"They disguised in military uniforms and approached the gate in hilux vans and Armored tanks painted in military color. The soldiers mistook them as colleagues and opened the gate before the attackers opened fire on them" He said.
He said the policemen where attacked in the Gujba divisional Police Headquarters barrack located opposite the military base.
"We even saw the corpse of Officer Jallo, a very friendly police constable."
He said that people were prevented from moving close to the security base but had roughly estimated the number to be at least thirty six security personnel.
"The number of the dead we saw is over what the BBC had reported, because the soldiers killed were eighteen not ten" he said
The attackers told residents to stay calm and not to panic.
"The assured people that they will not kill any civilian, "Uniform men are our target and we will not spare any of them"" he said.
A resident in the area said that the Armored tank with Arabic inscription returned to the town after the attack and a red flag hoisted on it as they torched government buildings.
He said that the places razed were the Palace of District head of Buni yadi, Alhaji Abba Hassan Mai Mukhtar, the Magistrate court, Local Government INEC office.
He said that four cars were also burnt in the district head's residence.
Yobe State Police commissioner, and a top military officer spent hours in a closed door meeting with the Yobe State Deputy Governor, Engineer Abubakar Aliyu.
The police commissioner confirmed the attack but, insist on more time to get back newsmen
"Please give me more time to get more information" he said.
Residents said that they reported the assailant's suspicious movement to security personnel but, they refused to act fast.
