Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, on Friday in Asaba, the Delta State capital, blamed politicians for the various crises in Nigeria.
Maku, who made this known at the National Peace Conference and Unity rally organised by Integrity for Leadership and Sustainable Empowerment Initiative Inc. said, “They (politicians) have used religion as their instrument of political power.
“Today, politicians who want to run for any position will assemble youths and give arms and ammunition to them. Most of the crises we are facing today emanated from politics.”
He called on youths to rise and fight those politicians who want to destroy them and the country.
Maku sued for peace among Christians, Muslims and the traditionalists, saying “I come
to preach, fight and rally for peace. What we all have in common is peace irrespective of our religion, culture or politics. We deserve peace.”
He recalled that the civil war, which Asab took part in, is a destruction, and bad experience; stressing that never again will there ever be war in Nigeria.
Maku urged Nigerians to rise in unity and say no to terrorism, as he said terrorists are people who departed from religious principles.
Earlier in his speech, the National Co-ordinator of the group, Rev. Chukwudi Eke, said youths must not inadvertently or deliberately support insurgents and unpatriotic politicians hiding under different subtle camouflages to destroy our fledgling democracy.
“They cannot by bombing their way to power conclude that it’s the only way to enthrone peace and progress. We must, therefore, allow peace and unity to reign supreme above political and ethno-religious differences,” he said.
