RBarely few hours to the expiration of the extended voter
registration excercise in Anambra state, residents are clamouring for an
additional five days extention period to enable them partake fully in the
excercise.
Residents of Awka and Nibo in their reactions called on the
Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to consider the lust man hours invested
by many in a bid to collect the permamnent voter card, but the turn out was
much for them to fnish up before the corps members close for the day.
Some who spoke to Ashiwaju.org were optimistic that the exercise
would improve the nation election system, but urged INEC to extend the
excercise till Saturday 30th, August, 2014 where greater percentage number of
residents would have the opportunity to register.
Reacting to the exercise, the Anambra state chairman of the
All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Emeka Ibe, lauded the voting
revalidation exercise, but expressed dissapointment that the percieved signal
set out to disenfranchise some eligible voters, which is a veritable instrument
that might discredit the transparency of any free and fair future elections,
should be condenmed.
Barrister Ibe stressed the need for INEC to listen to the
people's call and reverse his decision to end the exercise today in the good
interest of the electoratrates.
His Word, '' I want to urge INEC to consider the busy nature
of our people and reverse its decision to end the exercise today, being, 25th
of August, 2014. If I may suggest, I would request for an additional Five more
days to enable the people perticipate fully in the about to be concluded
voteres revalidation exercise''
Also speaking, a social commentator and political critics,
Comrade Osita Obi, described the exercise as excellent but devited from the
general call of extention, and hinged it on voter apathy to respond to the government
call.
He said, he noticed that many seems not to be interested in the
voter revalidation process, and blaimed it on inadequate media sensitization of
the part of the three tiers of the governmet to increase the level of awareness
creation among the citizenry.
'' I want to beleive, if enough sensitizatiion and awareness
creation is made, the apathy expereinced in my village at Umuawulu, Awka South
L.G.A. of Anambra state would not have been recorded''.
