Indigenes of Ezinano community of Awkw, Anambra, Have chased
out residents and artisans on Rockland Building Estate to seal-off property over
non-payment of compensation on their land.
The indigenes who came out in their hundreds are accusing the
owners of the estate, Frnacis Obiene of acquising their land without any
monetary compesansation.
The leader of the group, Obi Ochijie said the developer, who
acquired the property in 1979, had refused to meet with the community members
after several series of calls and letters for dialogue.
They revelaed that the developer took advantage of the disunity
mechanism being experienced in the community before now to avoid compensation
them.
They also urged the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano to
wade into the matter to avert supposed violence which would have happened in the course of the
land tussle, but maintained peace as law abiding citizens
Also speaking, the Public Relation Officer, Emeka Ezeh, said
they were yet to be briefed on the incident and warrned the indigenes not to
take laws into their hands.
He stressed there are proper channels of experiecing
grievieneces and not by chassing workers away on site or denying resdents their
fundamental rights.
