No fewer than 1,000,000 All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) members in Awka North and South Local Government Areas has set to embark on a peaceful protest match to late Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s cenotaph over ex-governor’s Peter Obi’s defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking to newsmen shortly after Chief Hon. Godson Ezenagu (Ochendo Igbo) had declared his intention to represent Awka North and South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Chief Austin Ndigwe described Obi’s defection to PDP as betrayal noting that Ojukwu remained the leader of the party even after his death.
He however described the defection as betrayal noting that he (Obi) made a pledge to the Party and to their Late leader Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu even as he said APGA made ex- Gov. Obi what he is today
“My people believe that the dead fights for the living.
“APGA has gone severally to Ojukwu’s grave since he died because the party decided that he will remain the leader of the party even in death.
“We are going to his grave to invoke his spirit, consult him, tell him developments in the party as well as our wishes,” Ndigwe stated.
The APGA leader said that the visit by the members All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka North and South would be led by some stakeholders of the party.
“He has reasons to have defected to PDP and it has little or no effect on APGA,” expressing confidence that the party would clinch 95 per cent victory at the 2015 general elections.
Chief Ndigwe re-affirmed the position of the party to support President Goodluck Jonathan for a re-election in 2015, noting that other seats would be keenly contested and won by APGA.
