2015: Fashola tasks NYSC members on electoral duty

NYSC
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), yesterday charged serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to live above board in discharging their electoral duties in 2015. He urged them to emulate the good records set by their predecessors and exhibit high sense of responsibility during the period.

Fashola made the appeal at the closing of the orientation course for the 2014 NYSC Batch B, stream 11 corps members at the Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja.
He was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Wale Ahmed, who is also the state chairman of NYSC Governing Board.
Commending their active participation in orientation activities, the governor recalled the involvement of corps members in the past general elections, where they were acclaimed to have performed creditably well by local and international observers.
He urged them to replicate the good work when electoral activities commence next year.
He noted that the entrepreneurship, skill acquisition and motivation programmes during the three-week orientation course had prepared the corps members for post-service self-employment.
Also speaking, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, assured the governor of high level discipline by the corps members.
She said the three-week conscientious training had armed the corps members with the patriotic zeal to discharge duties with high degree of dedication and professionalism.
“These corps members displayed a high level of discipline, patriotism, integrity, efficiency, team work and are committed to every task assigned them,” she said.
Adeyemi urged the corps members to utilise the employable skills acquired on the camp to conquer unemployment common among young graduates.
“You have an abundance of potentials within you, bring it out to fruition. It is a known fact that the world is going through a paradigm shift from offering white collar jobs to unlocking hidden potentials of young people toward being wealth creators through skills and entrepreneurship development,” she said.
Adeyemi warned the corps members of the prevalence of Ebola Virus Disease in some neighbouring African countries and urged them to adhere strictly with the safety precautions, which they had been taught on the camp.
While commending Fashola for his support to the scheme in the state, Mrs. Adeyemi pleaded for a more spacious and permanent orientation camp for corps members in the state.
