This year's November 28 was not like the others as a beloved son of Nibo, Architect Chukwudi Nwonu pulled the who's who in different fields of play to his house to celebrate his 50th year as an earth citizen. Professors, oculists, Catholic priests, Managers of schools and banks, veteran journalists were among the designations that coloured the event. Neighbours and Niboans were well represented too as whole families were spotted approaching the gentleman to give him congratulatory messages, speak health and long life into his life and hand in envelopes of goodwill, most of which he rejected with a grin of appreciation. 'Why would I take from someone who deserves rather to be given', he says.
Accompanied by his motherly wife and handsome son, the glowing celebrant, Arch. Chukwudi was seen all over his posh residence making sure everyone was comfortable and satisfied. They danced, cut cakes, took pictures and toasted with the attendees. One of the attendees who came from his hometown, during the toast-making, passionately expressed her satisfaction in the person of the celebrant. She highlighted how Architect Nwonu's residence in Nibo used to be the refectory of people from Nibo and environs ever festive period.
Speaking with the press later on, Architect Chukwudi Nwonu mentioned that the philantropism associated with him was more sporadic than premeditated. He also revealed that he had always nursed the desire to celebrate if and when he makes it to 50. Most of the attendees, he said, are my clients and business associates because my nature of job requires me to interact with many folks from different walks of life.
The hilarious Master of Ceremony, Mr Abuchi Onwumelu was in his best shape as he kept everyone almost gagging from rib cracking jokes he kept making. At a point, one of the dignitaries had to ask for his contact number. The event was quite a success as every 't' was crossed and 'I' dotted. Orientdaily staff wishes the good Architect, Architect Chukwudi Nwonu, long life and prosperity.
