The accused was arraigned on a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, impersonation, theft, and cheating.
The offences contravene the Penal Code, according to the police.
The prosecutor, Mr Falode Olutope, told the court that the accused, under false pretence, fraudulently collected the sum of N5 million from Harries.
Olutope said Harries, who works at Complete Construction and Technical Services Nig. Ltd, reported the matter to the police, following which the accused was arrested.
The prosecutor said the accused also impersonated one Mr Nze Obi from Rivers, ostensibly to get a contract with the Nigeria Agip Oil Company.
He said the accused had at different times, conspired with others now at large, to commit the crime.
When the four charges were read to him, the accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Senior Magistrate Christopher Oba admitted him to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Oba ordered that one of the sureties should be a civil servant of not less than grade level 10, and the other should own a landed property worth N1 million and above.
He adjourned the case to Jan.19, 2015 for further hearing. (NAN)
