The kids,according to eyewitnesses,were crushed to death in a stampede provoked by armed security men including men of the Joint Military Task Force code named Operation Restore Hope.
Leadership Weekend gathered that the stampede occurred at about 6:30pm following the firing of tear gas to scare away the crowd of women and youths waiting to collect the commodities slated for distribution.
The programme,which was organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Government through the MDGs conditional grant scheme and office of the first lady,attracted a huge crowd of youths and women in the state.
An eyewitness, Beauty Igoniwari, said though the official ceremony had been performed by the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan and dignitaries had departed from the venue,the security operatives swooped on the multitude of women and ordered them out of the stadium complex, saying the goods would no longer be distributed due to night fall.
