Apparently, Onanuga will serve out what is left of Amosun’s first term as the deputy governor as incumbent, Prince Segun Adesegun, has fallen out irredeemably with the governor and has pitched his tent with the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
State Chairman of the party, Chief Roqib Adeniji announced Onanuga, 54, as the running mate to the leaders and members of the party during a stakeholders meeting held in Abeokuta. He said the choice of Onanuga was carefully made by the party.
Mrs.Onanuga holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from the former Ogun State University now, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-iwoye in Ijebu-North Local Government area of the state.
The running mate also holds Higher National Diploma in Business Administration from the Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo, Lagos among others.
She is a daughter of late Alakaka of Akaka in Ijebu-North Local Government Area while she is married to a prominent chief in Ijebu-Ode, Chief Abiodun Onanuga.
According to Adeniji who was flanked by the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the party believes that the choice of Onanuga will enhance the victory of the party at the poll.
“I want to present Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga to you all as the running mate to the incumbent governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, she will run alongside him in the 2015 governorship election.
“She is well accepted by the governor”, he said.
Speaking shortly after his running mate was disclosed, Amosun described the event as long expected.
Amosun said: “Today is a special day to me. All the points raised by the elders in the party are well taken, when the time comes we will do the needful.”
