7 Books Every Leader Should Read, According To A Harvard Business School Professor

Reading lots of books
Max Bazerman, a business psychology professor at Harvard Business School and the author of the best book on general decision making that I’ve ever read, "Judgment in Managerial Decision Making," came out with 7 book recommendations.
I hadn’t heard of two of these, which I picked up.
I think we’ve all heard of this one. Bazerman says:
The development of decision research is the most pronounced influence of the social sciences on professional education and societal change that we have witness in the last half century. Kahneman is the greatest social scientist of our time, and" Thinking, Fast and Slow" provides an integrated history of the fields of behavioral decision research and behavioral economics, the role of our two different systems for processing information (System 1 vs. System 2), and the wonderful story of Kahneman’s relationship with Amos Tversky (Tversky would have shared Kahneman’s Nobel Prize had he not passed away at an early age).
2. "Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth and Happiness" by Richard Thaler & Cass Sunstein.

“When we said that the All Progressive Congress (APC), as it is presently constituted aids and abets terror in Nigeria by omission and commission, some Nigerians doubted us.
“But what further proof can there be of the culpability of the APC than the decision of its governors to shun the National Security Council meeting called by the president to deliberate on ways to bring the sponsors of terror and their footmen to book?

The couple, who conceived when the then elementary schoolgirl was aged just 11, gave birth to a healthy baby daughter weighing 7-pounds-4 last weekend.
Friends say the pair are "totally in love," are planning to bring up the infant together and eventually want to get married.
"Both sets of grandparents are incredibly supportive. It's a very difficult situation because the parents are both so young - but their families are right behind them," a source told The Sun.
"The baby's mum and dad have been in a relationship for more than a year, so it isn't a fleeting romance. They intend to stick together and bring their daughter up together," he added.
The new parents, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have - at just 25 - the lowest combined age of any British parents in history.

Military Retracts Earlier Statement About Rescue Of Girls Abducted From Secondary School In Chibok

Nigeria’s armed forces have formally issued a retraction to the unfolding story of the kidnapping of more than 100 female students in the country’s northeast Monday.

The statement, issued by Chris Olukolade, a Major General who also serves as Coordinator, and the Director of Defense Information, centers on a discrepancy of fact, and concerns a mis-quote from the School Principal whose students were abducted in the Monday siege. In an attempt to set the record straight, Olukolade’s statement reads as follows:

The controversy that has been generated around the efforts at securing the lives of the abducted students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok is unfortunate. The ongoing frantic efforts of security forces along with vigilante groups including hunters working to locate and free the abducted students have continued to be keenly monitored at the Operation Centre of the Defense and Army Headquarters as regular progress reports are being received from troops on the ground.

Caution To Olisa Metuh On His Unguarded Utterances

Now that the notorious White Widow, Samantha Lewthwaite, has been linked (whether confirmed or yet to be confirmed) to the dastardly bomb blast at Abuja, Nigerians should accept that the hen has finally come home to roost. Our worst nightmare is virtually at our doorstep. Terror has found a foothold in Nigeria. Teeth are still gnashing while tears are yet to dry. Nigeria is a nation at war, a nation in mourning. Peace has taken flight.

Nigerians are still continuing to express their shock and disgust at the unending cycle of violence that has now consumed the country. Losses are still being counted. The reality of a severe state of insecurity in which we all dwell stares blankly at us all in the face. However, of significance are four events which occurred just after this heinous crime to humanity. These are:

1.    Flags are yet to be flown at half-mast as Nigeria does not perceive this particular bomb blast (one in a series of unending tragedies) as particularly significant, painful or sorrowful.

2.    In the same perspective, President Goodluck Jonathan after the conceited mien and piety displayed at Nyanya in the course of his condolence visit, went on a whirlwind of politicking the following day. The bomb blast occurred on Monday 14th April whilst the President of the affected nation was on a felicitation visit to mark the centenary birthday of a traditional ruler (the Olubadan of Ibadan) on Tuesday 15th April 2014.

Messi mentally fatigued, says former Barca coach

Lionel Messi
Former Barcelona head coach Cesar Luis Menotti believes that Lionel Messi is suffering from mental fatigue following a poor run of form.
Messi has faced criticism for a lacklustre showing in Barca’s UEFA Champions League exit to La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid at the quarter-final stage last week.
The Argentina international also failed to reach his usual high standards as Barcelona crashed to a 1-0 defeat at Granada on Saturday – a result that severely hinders their hopes of retaining the Spanish title.
Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta leapt to Messi’s defence earlier this week, insisting that all is well with the 26-year-old despite his slump in form.

FRCN Lacks The Power To Probe Me, Sanusi Insists

In his originating summons on a suit he filed against FRCN and its executive secretary at a Federal High Court in Lagos, Sanusi accused the council of bias in its investigations of him, and therefore urged the court to halt the process.
As contained in the suit — filed by his Senior Advocate of Nigeria-lawyers, Professor Yemi Osibajo, Dr Kanyinsola Ajayi and Kola Awodehin — Sanusi requested the court to declare that by constituting itself into investigating body in the manner contained in newspaper advertorials of 24 March 2014, FRCN acted ultra vires.

Again, PDP accuses APC of terrorist connections

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh
The Peoples Democratic Party has reiterated its allegations that the opposition All Progressives Congress is responsible for the escalation of terrorist activities in Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Tuesday.
The party explained that inflammatory statements made by the leaders of the APC sparked off the hatred against the President Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP administration.
He urged Nigerians to stand up and resist those he called unpatriotic elements, whose actions and utterances had continued to fuel insurgency in the country.
According to Metuh, inflammatory utterances by certain “key politicians” against the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan sparked off hatred against the administration by their followers, while attracting impudent insurgents, who started demanding the ouster of the President with threats to cripple the system through acts of terrorism.
The statement partly read, “When the PDP, said that the APC is responsible for the spate of terror in Nigeria, many had an emotional response, but it is now time to dispassionately focus on the facts in order to stop the carnage on innocent Nigerians.

In a statement personally signed in Kaduna on Thursday Buhari said, “I cannot sit back and allow my image, and that of my political party be smeared by falsehood in the name of politics.”
He said the widely publicised and very serious allegations made against him by the PDP and its spokesman, Olisa Metuh, to the effect that his utterances were responsible for the current state of insecurity and terrorism bedeviling Nigeria, were absolutely without basis.
The former Head of State said, ”To support his claim, Metuh engaged in twisted logic and outright distortion – which he called facts – in which he said that I, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, beckoned on my ‘supporters to go on lynching spree’ should I lose the 2011 presidential election, as a result of which ‘an unprecedented violence broke out claiming the lives of hundreds of innocent people’.

It could not be immediately ascertained which of the groups the delegate represents at the Confab, which is holding at the National Judicial Institute, Airport Road, Abuja.
This brings to two the number of delegates who have suffered that fate in the last one week.
Last week, a delegate of the Market Women Associations, Ifeyinwa Ezenwa, slumped shortly after the Conference resumed for the afternoon session.

I’d rather be miserable than be in a relationship… — Yvonne Okoro

Voluptuous beauty, half-Nigerian, half-Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Okoro, isn’t exactly the kind of damsel you would think is in distress. She has nothing on her to cut that image and it doesn’t appear her career is in danger either. If the beautifully endowed sexy actress should come under any observation, I guess the lots would be in her favour as she seems to be doing better than ever, career wise.
Yvonne-Okoro11But her post on the Instagram last week placed a huge question mark on the state of mind of the actress. The declaration “ I would rather be lonely and miserable than be in a relationship” wouldn’t pass for any woman who is fulfilled as a woman, even though the career is on the up and up.
