The traffic situation on Lagos Island this week has been atrocious. Out of necessity, I had reasons to be on the island everyday of the week. I had the most harrowing traffic experience on Tuesday. It was so bad that I had to wait in a pub till about 10pm when the roads became decongested. While in the pub, I was accosted by two gentlemen who introduced themselves as admirers of my work. We started a conversation and they told me about their intentions to check out of the country for good. I was curious to know why and they gave quite compelling reasons. When that day comes, do you think the people in government are going to let them leave? Who will create the wealth for them to loot? Filmhouse to unveil 15 more cinemas

The management of Filmhouse Cinemas has announced its readiness to open 15 new cinema outlets from December 2014, in additional to the existing four.
The company which began operations in December 2012, is fast becoming ubiquitous, beating old player, Silverbird Cinemas on the number of outlets across the country. Co-founder and Managing Director of the company, Kene Mkparu, told newsmen in Calabar, Cross River State, during the just-concluded Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), about a new deal with African Capital Alliance (ACA).
The deal, according to him, is to establish five new cinemas before the end of December and additional10 outlets by 2015, and then about 4 yearly from 2016. Mkparu’s words confirmed ACA’s earlier announcement of its investments into Filmhouse Cinemas and Film One, its associated film production and distribution company, which described the latter as the fastest growing cinema chain in Nigeria with a great team.

Media creating false impression about insurgency – Jonathan


President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday in London said that the media was blowing the security situation in the north eastern part of the country out of proportion.
This is contained in a statement issued by Dr Reuben Abati, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
Jonathan said this at the opening of the meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investment Council  (HIIC).

Robbers Steal ‘Ebola Blood’ in Guinea as officials Plead for their safe return


Armed robbers in Guinea have stolen a batch of blood samples infected with Ebola virus as they were  in transit for delivery to a test centre.The robbers held up a minibus near the town of Kissidougou which was transporting the samples.According to AP, the blood was stored in a sealed container and was being escorted by four Red Cross officials.

INEC sets up 15 standing committees for general elections


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has set up 15 Standing Committees to ensure the success of the general elections in 2015.
This is contained in the commission’s bulletin issued in Abuja on Friday.
The committees include: Appointments, Promotion and Discipline, Board of Survey and Technical Equipment Acquisition, Board of Electoral Institute and Election Observation and Party Monitoring.
There are also Estate, Works and Transport, Finance and General Purpose, Health and Welfare, Information Technology and Voter Registration, and Information and Voter Registration committees.
Others are Legal Services, Clearance and Complaints, Electoral Operations and Logistics, Outreach and Partnerships, Planning, Monitoring and Strategy, Security, and Tenders Board.

The deadly Ebola outbreak can be ended “by the middle of next year” if the world speeds up its response, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said.
But he warned that although the rate of new cases was slowing in parts of West Africa, Mali – where six people have died – was now of deep concern.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned that the reported plan hatched by the Presidency to arrest House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal could trigger a crisis that will be fatal for the nation’s democracy, hence there is the need to jettison the plan out of abundance of caution.
In a statement ,Saturday in Ijebu-ode by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the federal government will be pouring petrol on a naked fired by arresting the Speaker, following the failed attempt to prevent him from accessing the National Assembly to preside over the affairs of the House of Representatives on Thursday, and also in an apparent attempt to halt the current move to impeach the President.
