The
commitment of the governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano to the
welfare of teachers in the state is borne out of a deep understanding of
their motivations and needs as a son of a Headmaster who is amongst the
most dedicated group of patriots that made most of us who we are. These
reasons were adduced Wednesday
by the wife of the governor of Anambra State Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu
Obiano at the commissioning of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT)
Secretariat, built by Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt.
Hon Princess Chinwe Nwaebili in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Mrs.
Obiano told the enthusiastic crowd in Ogbaru made up of mostly
teachers, community leaders and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)
faithful that governor Obiano cannot afford to fail the teachers and
that was why he set out early to fulfill promises made to them before he
assumed office beginning with the adjustment of salaries of teachers at
all levels to ensure fairness and balance. "I am here today to identify
with what the Speaker, Princess Nwaebili has done because it is in line
with the governor’s programme to ensure that teachers are comfortable
in other to do their job effectively," Chief Mrs. Obiano explained.
According
to her, “this building is a remarkable thing that will positively
affect the life and work of teachers in the Ogbaru area. It is like what
the governor did when he donated N10m to ensure the completion of the
Teachers House in Awka. He always emphasizes the need to do things to
improve the learning environment of students, by developing good
infrastructure alongside the welfare of teachers.”
Chief
Mrs. Obiano commended Princess Nwaebili for remembering teachers by
ensuring that they have a good place to hold their meetings in the
Ogbaru area. She urged the Teachers to make good use of the facilities,
and reciprocate the gesture by voting for the Princes and all APGA
candidates because APGA is known for “being our brothers and sisters
keeper.”
Earlier,
the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly and APGA candidate for
Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Princess Chinwe Nwaebili, said that
she decided to build the Secretariat for the Teachers to hold their
meetings in a good environment. She explained that seeing the Teachers
who cluster under the shades to discuss before now was not a very good
sight hence she decided to assist and urged them to make effective use
of the edifice.
In
his vote of thanks APGA candidate for Anambra North Senatorial
District, Chief Dubem Obaze praised the wife of the governor for her
kind words and encouragement to the teachers and people of Ogbaru. Chief
Obaze told Mrs. Obiano that Ogbaru people are grateful to the governor
for the good works he is doing in the state particularly in Ogbaru LGA
and assured that they are committed to APGA and will ensure total
victory during the forth-coming elections.
