Drama as Ekwunife, Ngige clash in church

A mild drama ensued as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidates for Anambra Central District, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife and Senator Chris Ngige clashed during Mothers’ Day celebration in an Anglican Church.

The two senatorial candidates separately came to St. Silas Anglican Church, Enekwasumpu to felicitate with the women as part of this year’s Anglican Church Mother’s Day celebration.

Ekwunife had earlier arrived the church alongside her supporters amidst jubilation as members of the church rose in celebration to receive the senatorial candidate of the PDP.
Shortly after her arrival, the APC candidate, Ngige came into the same church amidst jubilation.

The two political candidates showed uncommon character during the church service as both embraced each other warmly to the bewilderment of the congregation who apparently thought there was no love lost between them, especially as they were contesting against each other in the senatorial election.

In her speech, Mrs. Ekwunife commended the women for their roles in shaping the society, reminding them that the family as the nucleus of the society was at the mercy of the women and mothers.

Ekwunife further eulogized the women for their role in the sustenance of democracy through their resilience in voting which she said had remained the strength of Nigeria’s growing democracy since 1999.

In his own speech, Senator Ngige reminded the people of Enekwasumpu of his promises during 2011 general elections which according to him had been fulfilled and urged them to vote for him again during the March 28 election.

He promised to do more for the people of the area if they voted for him again to represent them at the Senate and said his visit to the church was also to felicitate with the women and join them as they marked the Mothering Sunday for the year 201a5.
