The Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) says it has taken delivery of sensitive materials for
Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking to newsmen in Awka, Resident
Electoral Commissioner (REC) Mr. Edwin Nwatarali, said the materials which were
received from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)Awka, were ballot papers and
result sheets, for the Presidential/National Assembly and State House of
Assembly elections in Anambra state.He added that card readers for the election had been received earlier and were charged in readiness for the exercise, assured that the commission is ready to conduct free, fair and transparent election in the coming elections.
He called on Anambraians to adhere strictly to the principles electioneering and conduct themselves in civil manners to the merit of all.
Similarly, the Head of Operations, Elder Ata Ewa Okon, who disclosed that the commission would leave no stone unturned to restore the confidence repose in INEC by the people, but assured their readiness to get the materials to the polling units earlier than expected, and disclosed that the hard to reach arrears in the state have been considered to take the first delivery of the materials.
In their separate reactions, representatives of different political parties, present to supervise the collection of the sensitive materials from the CBN Awka, expressed hope that the commission would deliver on its promises.
It was widely reported that the hard-to-reach arrears of Anambra state always play host to late arrival of electoral materials, but INEC has taken a step ahead to consider their location as the places to get the first share of INEC electoral materials.
