In the bid to
strengthen online information dissemination services in Ananbra state, resident
bloggers have been charged with the responsibility to ensure they are guided by
the ethics of journalism.
They have also
been challenged to ensure that 'project Anambra' is portrayed in good light before the
international communities, as a people who operate with less supervision but
have wider readership when it comes to speedy information circulation
mechanism.
The secretary,
Anambra state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Ifeoma
Anumba gave the charge at the maiden meeting of Anambra state resident bloggers
in Awka, promised to ensure they are protected by the state council of NUJ, if
their conduct falls within the tenet of best practice.
She promised to
facilitate their push of being registered as NUJ chapel, but buoyed to promote
the interest of the masses in an environment where the new media network would
serve as an instrument of nation
building.
Her words '' as a
Unionist, am impressed with this your turn out, which is a good number to make
up a chapel of NUJ, but I will urge this union to live up to expectation by
ensuring the information given will be in the interest of the state'''
'' Though Social
media network might be the fastest means of information dissemination, but it
must be constructively disseminated, in the interest of the larger society''
Anumba advised.
In their separate
speeches, Mr. Emeka Odogwu Emeka, Mr. Arinze Igboeli, Mr. David Eleke, Mr.
Ifeanyi Ifeadinmesi and Mr. Bamidele Ajayi among others, took turn to x-ray
challenges being faced as bloggers
operating in the state, but suggestions
were offered and the need to ensure that the union is absorbed as a chapel
under Anambra state NUJ was ratified.
Highlight of the
meeting was the nomination of Mr. Bamidele Ajayi and Mr. Chigozie Umeh as
acting state coordinator and secretary, who
will serve as caretaker committee
to stair the affairs of Anambra State Union.
