All the communities in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State came together on Sunday to celebrate amidst dance and merriment the historic victory recorded by the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in the just concluded Anambra State House of Assembly election.
It was a great moment as men and women, young and old, anxious family, friends and well-wishers could not contain their excitement.
Even though the event was held at the Central School, Umunnachi, more than 1000 people, majorly APGA faithful turned out from other towns within the LG to congratulate themselves after they achieved a feat hitherto viewed as “Mission Impossible” by ensuring the success of APGA against all monetary and military intimidations from opposition party stalwarts.
"Today’s celebration shows we have done what was formerly seen as impossible, many persons were insulted and assaulted… so today, we are celebrating our success as we prepare for more victories in the future” Madam Ngozi, the Dunukofia APGA Women Leader said.
According to the Chairman, APGA Campaign Organization for Dunukofia, Comrade Dr Chukwuemeka Ugozor, "When we observed that a strong man whom God gave to us has started spoiling political process in our local government and in Anambra in general by promoting buying of votes. We united all the communities in Dunukofia and swore that the peoples’ voice must be heard. Today, we are celebrating our success… APGA won in all the communities in Dunukofia”.
Speaking to newsmen, the House of Assembly Member-elect, Lawrence Ezeudu said their victory in Dunukofia required no extra magic as people used their votes to show support for the working governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano.
"We have never for once celebrated our winning after election. We won because people have confidence in APGA and what Governor Willie Obiano is doing. The election was just a pay-back time. It is way of telling the governor that Ndi Dunukofia support him” Ezeudu said.
While addressing the gathering, Uzuegbuna Okagbue, the Chief Protocol Officer to Chief Willie Obiano and a native of Umunnachi, amidst chants of “Leader” from the people, enjoined Ndi Dunukofia to rejoice that APGA has come to stay in the local government, noting that time has passed when one individual speaks for all.
In his words, “We have shown we are brothers, brothers discuss and plan together. Henceforth we shall deliberate together, plan together and determine our fate together… APGA will win this election if repeated many times over”.
The colourful display by masquerades and musical dance groups added glamour to the event which had in attendance party men and women, youth and women groups, APGA Leaders and Stakeholders.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Dunukofia APGA Chairman, Sylvester Igbokwe called on all party faithful to celebrate with pride as all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government, Chukwudi Okeke thanked God for the day stressing that Governor Willie Obiano’s giant strides in security and community development necessitated the huge support from Dunukofia. He also emphasized that a united Dunukofia will ensure more victories and progress for APGA and for the people while urging Ndi APGA to allow new members from the failing opposition parties.
