My Supporters Kept Vigil to Guard Their Votes- Madubueze

BY ABUCHI IFESINACHI, AWKA
The winner of  March 28 Anambra east, west federal constituencies national assembly election, Chief Peter Obiano Madubueze (Okaka Anam) said the reason he was not rigged out was because of the vigilance of his supporters who kept vigil to guard their votes and insisted that the votes must count.
The lawyer who stated this in an exclusive interview with Fides in Awka noted that he was highly elated and full of praise for his teeming supporters noting that he owed his victory to Gov. Willie Obiano.
'I owe my victory to Governor Obiano. God made it possible through him. The card reader failed completely and perhaps that helped the PDP to rig everywhere except my constituency, Anambra East and West Federal Constituency. They could not also rig Oyi/Ayamelum federal constituency election. And we do hope that those APGA candidates rigged out will still get their mandates,' Mr Madubueze assured.
Commenting on the card reader which many described as a colossal failure, the lawyer said that Nigeria had made China a country that virtually exports everything to it irrespective of the standard or quality of the product. He said that Chinese manufacturers would produce commodities according to the quality their customers demanded. He argued that if high quality card readers had been imported that it would not have been a monumental failure, a situation some other observers see as a rigging process. Ndubueze said the card readers were being used successfully in so many other countries of the world “Why not Nigeria.”
'One phenomenon in politics many electorate complain about is that politicians renege on their electioneering campaign promises once elected into power, but Madubueze gave a firm promise to accomplish to the letter all he promised the people.
In addition to youth empowerment and other democracy dividends, Madubueze re-affirmed his promise to tackle ecological problems in his constituency and make a difference in all spheres of life away  from what it  used to be in the past.
Madubueze joined active politics in 2005 and in 2007 he contested for this same position, House of Representatives under the defunct Action Congress (AC).  He said he was the founder of the party in Anambra East and West Federal Constituency. After that,  he made a lot of impact that made APGA members to woo him into the party and finally in 2008, he  joined APGA. He was also an aspirant for the same position in 2011 under APGA. The party saw a lot of potentials in him and decided to give him sensitive positions in the party.
'I was a leader of a five-man delegates that toured all the local governments in the state to ascertain if Anambra North would be allowed to produce governor. We made our report to the national chairman of the party, Chief Victor  Umeh, which showed that almost every stakeholder was  frank to tell us that it was the turn of Anambra North to produce the next governor of the state. During the same period, the then governorship aspirant under the party, Chief Paul Odenigbo made me his Director of Campaign. After the primary which brought in Chief Willie Obiano as the candidate of APGA in 2013, I was made Obiano’s campaign Director in Anambra North senatorial district. The party also made me election chairman for Anambra West local government in the same election.
We did our job creditably and Obiano emerged as governor of the state,' Madubueze reflected.
On the victory of General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress in the presidential election,  he said that even though his party, APGA adopted President Jonathan  as its candidate during the election, that it was obvious that Buhari was a stronger character and the APC, a more popular party in comparison with the PDP. He said that Buhari would forget his ethnic of origin and accommodate all in his administration. 'Igbo will expect fairness from Buhari,' he concluded.
