Two suspected armed robbers burnt to death in Onitsha

By Abuchi Onwumelu
Two suspected armed robbers were yesterday burnt to death in Onitsha along Old Road Nkpor, opposite First Bank. The suspects operating on motorbike were said to have snatched a bag containing cash withdrawn by a female customer of the First Bank.
Eyewitnesses say they collected the money at gunpoint as onlookers who noticed what was happening chased them, caught them and beat them mercilessly with sticks and stones before setting them ablaze.
An eyewitness who simply identified himself as Mr Sam urged Governor Willie Obiano to tighten security in Onitsha and its environs to curtail these incessant armed robbers operating on motorbike commonly known as Okada.

Another eyewitness Ugochukwu Obinma lamented that crime rate has increased in Onitsha since the Governor banned Okada.
Confirming the report to Odenigbo FM, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra state, Mr Uche Eze, advised youths to eschew social vices and make good morals their guiding principle .
Recall that three weeks ago, two armed robbers operating on motorbike were also burnt to death at building material market Ogidi along Onitsha - Enugu Expressway while trying to dispossess an Hausa trader of his cash.#
