Anambra State Government said it will commence free registration and issuance of identity cards for all commercial and private motorcycles and vehicles as well as boats and canoes operating in the State.
This was disclosed in a Public Service Announcement signed by the state commissioner for information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. (Mrs.)Uju Nwogu, promised to ensure it's full compliance as regards strict implementation of government directive to apprehend any defaulter.
The statement reads in part that the exercise will commence on Saturday 1st August, 2015. with free distribution of branded bibs or vests to
all motorcycle riders and life jackets to all commuters using boats and canoes
as means of transport in the riverine communities of the State.
Dr Nwogu stressed the importance and urged persons involve to adhere strictly to the state government directive noted that the exercise be take place at the 21 LGA headquarters in the state.''Government wishes to use the opportunity of this announcement to inform the public particularly commercial and private motorcycle operators that the order on compulsory use of crash helmet is still in force
The use of life
jackets and vests is also compulsory for all commuters using canoes and boats
as means of transport.
Government also,
by this announcement, advises mothers traveling with their children to avoid
using motorcycles but to enter tricycles, taxis or buses to ensure their
safety.
Violators of
these directives would have themselves to blame as law enforcement agencies
have been directed to ensure strict compliance' she affirmed.
