There is
confusion in Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as two
factions are suspending each other . A faction of the party loyal to Olisah
Metuh , national publicity secretary of PDP has banned nine chieftains,
including the governorship candidate of the party in the 2013 election in the
state, Comrade Tony Nwoye, from contesting any election on its platform for two
years.
This was
announced by the disciplinary committee of the party on Thursday in Awka,
Anambra State capital.
Rising from a
four-hour sitting at the party secretariat
the panel said that Nwoye and others who had been earlier suspended by
the state executive committee were guilty of allegations leveled against them.
The committee,
headed by Chief Sam Ezebilie, with Mr. Aniebo Chibuzo as secretary said: “After
listening to the submission of the prosecuting counsel (Barr. ANNC Akonanya)
and careful study of the charge brought before this committee by the state
Executive member of PDP Anambra State, this committee hereby agrees with the
earlier suspension on the erring members”.
Others banned by
the disciplinary committee are: Prince Osita Ezenwa, Mr. Basil Ejidike, Mrs.
Jessy Belonwu, Mr. Kenneth Arinze, Mr. Uche Ogbonna, Mr. Tony Macfore
Akachukwu, Chief Ejike Oguebego and Mr. Chuks
Okoye.
The panel said
that the offences of Nwoye and group were covered under section 58 (1) paragraph B of the
constitution of People’s Democratic Party as amended in 2012.
Among the
offences include engaging in disorderly
conduct at meetings, rallies and party functions, engaging in unauthorized
publicity of disputes within the party and creating a parallel party organ.
Meanwhile,
another faction of the Anambra state chapter of PDP loyal to Nwoye has
suspended the national Publicity secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh over
allegations of party funds.
In a statement
released and signed by the state party Publicity Secretary Kenneth Arinze today
August 14th, Mr Metuh’s suspension followed a previous suspension from Otolo
Nnewi Ward I, which is his party ward.
“Following the
suspension of Chief Olisa Metuh by the Otolo Ward 1 Nnewi of the PDP (where
Olisa hails from) and the ratification of same by the Nnewi North Local
Government chapter, the State executive committee, after assessing the weighty
allegations against Olisa Metuh and finding them heinous, in compliance with
the PDP Constitution, hereby, ratifies the suspension and forward same to the
National Working Committee (NWC)” the statement read
