Buhari, Kukah
Nigerian President, Mr.
Muhammadu Buhari and the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bihsop Matthew
Kukah on Thursday met behind closed-door.
The meeting which
lasted for about thirty minutes, took place inside the President’s office in Aso Villa.
Kukah, who is a
member of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 General Elections has been
in the eye of the storm since his recent statements faulting the investigations
being conducted by Buhari on some of the actions of the former President Goodluck
Jonathan’s administration.
The Catholic
priest was quoted to have said that for conceding victory to Buhari in the
March 28 presidential election, Jonathan should not be probed.
The comment
attracted criticism from stakeholders who felt the bishop was supporting
corruption with his statement.
Kukah, who
briefed State House correspondents after a meeting members of the peace
committee, led by Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar (retd.), had with Buhari on August
11, had said the President was advised to follow the rule of law in his
anti-graft war.
He said Buhari,
you remember that the country was no longer under military rule.
Reliable source revealed to Ashiwaju.org that th catholic Bishop visit is unconnected with the perceived victimization and witchhunt of personnel who served under former president Goodluck Jnathan.
It was also revealed tha the former president Jonathan may have sent the Catholic Bishop as part of the mission to plead on his behalf to be absorbed from the President Buhari led administration probe exercise.
Though, the Bishop did not speak to journalists after the meeting with President Buhari, but the outcome of the short visit leave mark of relief on the Catholic Bishop with the hope of getting respite for his mission to the Aso Villa.
