The Anambra State
Judiciary Staff Union (JUSUN) has embarked on indefinite strike owing to the negligence
of the state government to implement the consolidate judicial workers
salary structure .
This was
disclosed in an interview with the state chairman Mr.Mark Ifezue, who expressed
disappointment on the part of the state governor not to have fully complied
with the national judicial salary structure demand.
He stressed the
importance of the union’s demand, described the disparity in workers salary as
a mechanism to place some above other in the same zone and create room for disharmony
in the judicial system.
He said the union
had considered the state government financial incapability and had suspended
the strike for more than five times between 2011 till date but seems the state
government does not see reason to harken
to their demands, that according to him forced the union to embark on
indefinite strike to force the state government to do what its requested of her
to do.
‘’We are on
strike because of the refusal of the state government to review an agreement
reached with the judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria Anambra state branch over the
consolidated Judicial Salary Structure’’
The consolidate
Judiciary Salary Structure was a consolidated judicial structure worked out for
all judicial workers across the nation.
Sometime in 2011,
the branch here in Anambra state went on strike to press the state government
to implement this salary structure, we entered into agreement, where the state government
offered us some percentage that what the state can afford as that particular time with a promise that the
balance will be subsequently reviewed.
He explained
further: In 2013, Sometime last year, the union wrote to the state government
demanding a review of the said agreement, nothing comes out of that demand.
Sometimes in June
this year , we equally made the same request to the state government and
nothing came out of it again, that gave rise to this our indefinite strike
action’’. He said.
Ifezue disclosed
that though the state government had complied on the demand to some extent but
are yet to fully comply, he stated the reason they embarked on the strike: ‘’Full
compliance of the consolidate workers salary structure is not the reason why we are on strike, it will be a
discussion for another day but we are on strike because the state government
refuse to review the CONJUS Structure so that the state judiciary will be at
par with other states judiciary in the south east, and this time around, it
will be total; I mean an indefinite strike until the state government listens
to our demands’’. He charged.
