Assembly Urges Obiano to Provide Emergency Ambulances in Strategic Locations

Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a motion urging the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano to direct the State Ministry of Health and other Agencies to provide emergency ambulances at strategic junctions and locations throughout the state.
Www.abuchionwumelu.com reports that the motion, which was moved by the member representing Aguata 1 constituency, Hon. Ikechukwu Umeh received overwhelming support from members who argued that there was need for the ambulances as it will help to provide on the spot first aid and assistance to victims and reduce number of deaths, especially in the ember months.
The motion also urged the governor to direct the state ministry of health and transport to provide adequate professional manpower for effective utilisation of the ambulances.  While supporting the motion, Hon. Uche Okafor (APGA-Ayamelum) argued that “there is efficiency and effectiveness of governance in Europe because they decentralise governance and have ambulances in strategic places” which according to him, will help to create jobs for the citizenry.
The Speaker of the House, Hon. Rita Maduagwu (APGA-Nnewi South 2) while passing the motion also urged philanthropists and transporters in the state to assist the government in that regard by donating ambulances to save lives.
Similarly, the House also passed a motion urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Head of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to encourage and ensure steadfast programmes towards literacy campaign in the State.
The legislatures passed the resolution after deliberating on a motion raised by Mr. Uche Okafor, representing Ayamelum Constituency  and seconded by Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, representing Aguata 2 constituency at the floor of the House in Awka, Anambra State.
In the Motion, Okafor and others aligned themselves with the report of the UNESCO Global monitoring report on education for all, which acclaimed that there are many more children out of school around the world, mostly in Africa.
“Celebrations of international literacy day have included specific themes in line with education for all goods.
“And we are aware that Governor Willie Obiano has done well in ensuring that no child should be out of school during school hours through its awareness programmes, also done well towards empowering the youths through its empowerment programmes” he surmised.
