It is a known
fact that education is the instrument for economic empowerment and development
of sustainable economy. No wonder, one of the national education goals is
"the acquisition of appropriate skills and the development of mental,
physical and social abilities and competencies as equipment for the individual
to live and contribute to the development of the society".
This and many
more could not be unconnected with the drive to ensure qualitative education is
provided for the children being he cradle to any developing nation to attain greatness in the comity of nations.The commander of
the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Anambra state, Mr. Sule Momdu has buoyed
to invest all it takes to ensure children are given the right to education and
be informed about the danger in drug abuse and trafficking.
In an open
remark, to mark the 2015/2016 the third NDLEA Education quiz award in Awka, Mr.
Momodu said the project was carved out to catch them
young to instill discipline and teach
them about the history of Nigeria where value and respect for tribes and names
are protected against immoral approaches that endears many now to drug
consumption and trafficking.
He urged parents
and guardians to inculcate the value of cultural development and solicit for
drive that will bring the children closer to their history.
“All this aim is
by making you better student, we also believe that this quiz will encourage
others to be members of NDLEA Drug Free Club of various schools in the state, that
is the only way we can catch you young to indoctrinate you on the danger of
drug abuse and trafficking”.
He lamented the
decay and neglect to programme that will improve the standard of education in
the country by private investors, leaving everything in the hands of government
but encouraged well meaning Nigerians to join hands with NDLEA to rebrand the
children on the importance of getting qualitative education and upholding the
values that make us Africans, according to him, Africans are not known for drug
abuse and trafficking.
The NDLEA Scribe
in Anambra state also took turn to announce incentives attached to winning schools ,
which according to him will encourage others schools to take their Drug Free
Club Seriously and to other school to also be persuaded to set up one in their different
schools in the state.
“The Winning
School will get a price, the student representing the winning school will take
home a laptop and a Television Set, the second position will go home with TV
Set, equally the third position. Also, first-second & third, you will all
go home with your registration fee for NECO, WAEC & JAMB, while the teacher
that will accompany the winning school will take home N20.000, the teacher that
will accompany the school with the first runner-up will go home with N15,000,
while the third runner-up teacher will go home with N10,000 respectively”.
“ I take this
quiz very serious, I see it as NDLEA contribution to fighting the scourge of
drug abuse and trafficking from the cradle, everything we do, we take it will
all seriousness, my dear students , the game is here again, if you have
prepared very well, you will reduce the burden of your parents to pay your
WAEC, NECO and JAMB if you win and you will go home with a laptop and a TV set
for your parent to put in the house. I think this is mouth-watering gesture to
encourage student to take their studies very serious”. He Submitted.

five zones in Anambra will have their representatives to make it to the final.
