Chemiical Explosion Raze Three Houses In Onitsha

Chemical depot located at Nkpor junction in Idemili North Local Government area of Anambra State, yesterday evening set three buildings ablaze.
Chemicals stored in drums in the depot caught fire and exploded, setting the three buildings: a five-storey, three-storey and another ablaze.
Properties estimated at several millions of naira were lost to the inferno despite the efforts of men of the fire service who were on hand to stop the fire.
Two of the affected buildings were Summer Hill Clinic and a residential home located near the chemical depot.
It was gathered that because the three buildings were clustered in one place, the inferno was able to affect them easily.
When contacted, the Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr. Hassan Musa confirmed the inferno started from the chemical depot, then spread to the other buildings, however he said no life was lost and no body had been confirmed injured.
An eyewitness who spoke with News Reporters International said “there was pandemonium when the chemical exploded, the fire spread so fast which made residents and people at the clinic run in confusion”.
He said though the fire fighters arrived the scene soon enough, but the chemical fire spread so fast making it difficult to control.
As at press time, the chemical fire has already been brought under control, but the three buildings were badly affected and families left homeless.
