2015 SCORE CARD: NDLEA Anambra Records 68 Per Cent Success In Fighting Illicit Drug Trafficking

The Anambra state commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) , Mr. Sule Momodu has solicited for accelerated hearing of drug related cases in various courts to decongest number of drug suspects in prison custodies in the state .





He however attributed the successes recorded in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the state to virile determination by men of the agency to rid the state of illicit drug trafficking.
 Speaking to journalists in Awka, as part of his monthly press update, the commandant NDLEA  Anmabra state, Mr. Sule Momodu enumerated the number of drug seizures recorded in 2015 which stands at 68 per cent decline against 2014 drug seizure  estimate, he placed the total seizure of Cannabis Sativa, Cocaine, Heroin and Psychotropic Substance at 704.689 Kilogram of 2014, as against  456,622 Kilogram recorded  in 2015.
Number of suspects  arraigned in Federal High Courts in the state for 2014 are 395 , with 354 male and 41 female, as against 289 recorded in 2015 where 268 are men and 21 female.
Momodu, disclosed that the command got  28 conviction in 2014 as against 30 convictions recorded in 2015. 





He lamented that the command surfer’s inadequate personnel to carry out  effective  prosecution exercise before various courts in the state, and call on government to  improved funding and logistics facilities for the agency to delivered more on their constitutional mandate and further win the war against illicit drug trafficking.
Sule Momodu expressed hope that the command would not relent on its achievements in 2016 but  build upon the recorded victories and surpass previous years records to ensure that drug trafficking and abuse is reduced to the barest minimum in the state.
