Umeh urges INEC To Abide By Court Order For Fair Rerun Poll In Anambra Central

Immediate past  National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and candidate of the party in the Anambra Central senatorial district rerun election, Chief Victor Umeh has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to respect court order by excluding fresh candidates in the rerun polls.

Chief Umeh who spoke to journalists in Lagos expressed hope that APGA, will surely reclaim its mandate come February Rescheduled election.
He  said,  "it would be an unnecessary legal jeopardy for a fresh candidate to be submitted given the ruling of the Court of Appeal on the earlier election, which  was consistent with earlier rulings by the Supreme Court."

Erstwhile National chairman condemned  the defection of former Senator Uche Ekwunife from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC. and urged stakeholders to abide by th rulling of court on party nomination and substitution.

"I  ready to face any challenge from any legally recognised quarter,  nevertheless frowned at an attempt to compromise the court’s decision, which  ruled out Ekwunife and the PDP from contesting in the fresh election as ordered by the Court of Appeal"/

“I am ready for the election again but the important thing to consider now is the need to do everything according to the law. The previous election was nullified because somebody took part after not being properly nominated by her party, the PDP.”

It would be recalled that the  Court of Appeal sitting  in Enugu had on December 7, 2015, nullified the election of Senator Uche. Ekwunife on the ground of faulty party primaries and ordered the INEC to conduct fresh election in Anambra Central senatorial zone within 90 days.
