The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinous Ezeokafor has called on well meaning Nigerians to remember the poor, said this is the rightful service expected of Man by God to the less privileged people in the society .
He stated this in Awka, while addressing widows and people living with various degree of disabilities, said the church can not do more than expected, but urged the rich few to always extend their hands of assistance to the poor people in the society.Bishop Okafor frowned at the idea where some rich few would ignore the poor people, living out their care of the poor solely in the hands of government and the church, stressed the need for every well-to-do individual to make it a duty to train the child of the poor in their community.
The clergy further solicited for consistent assistance to be extended to the needy, where God wold in-turn make a turn around miracle to whoever observe his commandment to take care of the poor.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of food items clothing, farm implement, Tailoring and Hair-dressing equipment to the less privilege in the Awka Diocese of the Catholic Church.
Other Items include, cash that is capable to start up a small business and symbolic souvenirs, with the sign of cross crested on most of the gift items and little party with the poor to make them feel accepted in the society .
