All is now set to build a befitting national sickle cell anemia centre at Ukpo.
According to Dr. Ifeoma Modebe, an Associate Professor and Consultant in public health and physician in the Department of Community Medicine Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Ukpo, the centre would be furnished with modern medical equipment geared towards providing quality health to the sicklers in the country and Anambra State in particular.
Dr. Modebe who expressed satisfaction with APLSCD Sensitization and Campaign Drive disclosed this when receiving the National Coordinator, Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder (APLSCD), Aisha Edward, who came to inspect the ongoing sickle cell clinic at NAUTH Ukpo, explained that the project has been attracted and facilitated by Anambra State Business Mogul, Engr. Arthur Eze.
She further thanked APLCD and its coordinator on their relentless effort in championing the course of sicklers, and charged her professional colleagues ranging from CMDs, MNA, PSN to throw their weight behind the Noble Association with such a great humanitarian cause, she also advised the various NGOs in the country to borrow a leaf from them rather than sabotaging their efforts.
In response, the National Coordinator, Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder (APLCD), Aisha Edward, extolled the management and staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, NAUTH, and Engr. Arthur Eze for the kind gesture bestowed on them, and called for more support from interested individuals to alleviating the sufferings of sicklers and guaranteeing a sound medical management for Her patients in the SOUTH Eastern Nigeria especially in ANAMBRA STATE who is their Host state. My dream dream for APLSCD with a magnificent Edifice as a national center is gradually coming to pass with the help of my Dearly well respected professionals in Medical Sector putting all hands on deck to ensure that our dreams comes true.
Edward, who was happy over the pace of works at Sickle Cell Anemia Clinic at Ukpo, said she was optimistic that it would provide professional management and general good health to them when completed. She commended the high spate at which the general hospitals in the state are speedily cooperating to their outcry, " My Special thanks and gratitude would go to Dr. Arinze Ugochukwu and the medical team at Ofuobi General hospitals Nanka, for the first time we experienced a kind and selfless management without Outrageous billing, The management chose to give us the best Professional attentions Even when the patient cases were becoming more challenging as regarding blood transfusions, yet they successfully rescued most patients admitted." She therefore commended their life liners and life savers popularly known as the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Nigeria Medical Association, Prof. Dr. Ajuba of Hematology Dept. NAUTH, who recently dedicated CELFLOW HEAMATO ONCOLOGY AND SPECIALIST CLINIC to APLSCD and Most importantly the MEDIA on their numerous contributions to the plights of sickle cell Victims even as she called for more collaborative effort from other stakeholders in other Local Government Area, with the relevant agencies, people and institutions in monitoring, advocacy and information dissemination on implementation of law of sickle cell, during marriages and genetic compatibility.Edward concluded by welcoming all and sundry especially those visiting states to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Auditorium on the 18th and 19 of June 2016 for the Grand Celebration of their World SICKLE CELL DAY, Where The State shall take the lead and Others will follow.
