They lamented that major drainages in Onitsha are blocked due to the congested nature of the environment and called on the state government to come to their aid in making sure their drains are through for free flow of water.
Speaking at the State Emergency Agency SEMA early warning sensitization meeting at Onitsha North LGA premises, cross sections of the stakeholders requested the state government to help open up most blocked drainages, which would reduce possible damages of the impending flooding on their community.
On their part, delegates of the state emergency Agency SEMA took turns to educate the people on the dangers of the impending flood and caution the people to adhere to the instruction given in the early warning sensitization meeting to minimize the envisaged adverse effect the floodong might have on the community.
The concerned local government areas are Ayamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West, Ogbaru, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Idemili South, Awka North, as well as Ekwusigo and Ihiala. He said that the state government had procured enough speed boats and other basic logistical needs of potential victims of the flood disaster in the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camps already set up.
