Constitutional Lawyer Condemned Arrest of Judges

A constitutional lawyer in Anambra state, Okolie John-Akirika has faulted the arrest of judges by men of the department of security service DSS, said it contravene the constitutional provision that establish the National Judicial Council, body saddled with the responsibility of judicial matters.
He said the move by the men of DSS is unconstitutional and should be condemned by all Nigerians, charged the country security to ensure they operate within the confirm of the law that established it.
He disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent Bamidele Ajayi in Awka, notes the constitutional gap created by the action which ought to be corrected by the act of the National Assembly.

Okolie John Akirika described the invasion as an art of terrorism, which should be condemned by all and sundry.
He expressed disappointment that an agency of government, created by law should act altra –vire to the law with the pretence of combating corruption as alleged.
He alleged that the arrest of the judges without recourse to the NJC was unlawful and amounted to humiliating them.
He said the DSS operations violated the rights of judges under sections 33, 34, 35, 36 and 41 of the 1999 Constitution.
Speaking on the release of 21 kidnapped Chibok girls, said the condition at which the insurgents were coaxed to release the girls by negotiation should be extended to other agitators in the country.
The cited the neglect been melted out to the IPOB/MASSOB and the Niger Delta Avengers groups, urged the president to open a negotiation mechanism to other agitating groups for peace and tranquility to thrive in the country.
The legal practitioner however absolved the mechanism and apparatus of government launched to achieve the feat in the fight against terrorism, noted such network should be strengthened.
