When the German Philosopher, Arthur Schopenhaur made this famous quote, “All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed; Second, it is violently opposed; Third, it is accepted as self evident”, he probably had Andy Uba in mind.
Today, Senator Andy Uba, through courage and determination, has proven to be a leader by value and has provided good representation to his people having served in the Senate since 2011. Observing the man Andy uba, his antecedents and track records, it can be seen that he has distinguished himself as an all action, few talk and result orientated leader. Politics as it is practiced today can be seen as a game of mudslinging and banter throwing, where opponents throw ‘muds’ on each other to smear one another’s public image – but clearly, this is not the case with Senator Andy Uba, a reserved gentleman, devoid of propaganda, who focuses on nothing else but the task at hand.
President Barack Obama, in his recent farewell speech said that politics is a battle of ideas, I go further to add that it is a platform for one to show his capacity to serve or govern – by showcasing previous achievements while having a clear vision.
In September 15, 2011, few months after assuming office as Senator, Andy Uba quickly swung into action and sponsored a bill for an Act to amend the companies’ income tax. In the same month, he sponsored another bill for an Act to provide for the establishment of a scheme for compensation for criminal injuries. Between June and July 2012, he sponsored two bills, also among them is the Delegated Legislation, Monitoring and Control Bill 2012.
In June 2016, he sponsored a bill on NPA’s transparency and privatization, the bill seeks to repeal the Nigerian Ports Authority Act, 2004 and reenact the Nigerian Ports and Harbours Authority to Provide for the Ownership, Management and Development of Ports and Harbours - the Bill proposes in part for the provision of an “appropriate institutional framework for the ownership, management and development of ports and harbours”.
In April 2016, he sponsored a bill seeking to repeal the Consumer Protection Act, 2004 and enact the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Bill – this bill has passed second reading. Famous among the motions he sponsored is the one that sought State burial and Immortalization of late Ikemba of Nnewi, Chief Odimegwu Ojukwu. All these and many more bills and motions that are not captured here for sake of brevity have made him the Senator with the highest number of bills and motions passed.
Our findings further revealed developmental projects Senator Andy Uba attracted from the federal government and those he executed directly. Among the projects is the provision of solar powered street light from Ekwulobia round about to Nkpologwu, Nkwo-Uga to Akokwa junction in Aguata council at the cost of N16 million. Also the one at Nnaka, Oko Ndikedionwu- Omogbo Ufuma- Ajali communities in Orumba North Local Government area which he attracted from government agency cost N13 million. Yet another N12 million from Ministry of Education took care of rehabilitation of class room blocks and construction of two new class room blocks at Nwagwazi Primary school in Uga in Aguata LGA; N12 million was spent on solar street light at Nnobi road- Total Filling Station-Nnewi High School-Nkwo Triangle traffic light junction-CPS Okongwu Memorial Secondary in Nnewi North council area in Anambra South District.
Still on our findings, Senator Uba has attracted projects like school renovation at Ogbunka Technical College, Umunze. Construction of classroom blocks and fencing of Community High School at Nawfia. Solar street light at Isulo, Ezeria and Umunze all in Orumba South LGA, all costing from N5 million and N10 million respectively. In Ihiala LGA axis, communities like Mgbachi-Uli,Okija Ubahaekwem- Ihiala, Ufuma Okija and Iseke and Orumba North Axis in Anambra South District benefited either from schools rehabilitation or provision of Borehole for clean water drinking.
In the area of humanitarian gestures, so far, Senator Andy Uba has awarded scholarship to more than 400 indigent students from secondary to the tertiary levels under Philip Uba Foundation in memory of his late father. The widows in the district have also benefited from Igwebuike’s magnanimity in the area of financial empowerment. More of these are said to be in the offing.
Clearly, what it takes to be the governor of a state cannot be captured in one article, therefore we will continue to update you with facts on why Sen. Andy Uba is the best candidate – this is what we the #IStandWithAndyUba volunteer group is set to achieve.
