Igbo urged to preserve their culture

Ofala Festival is one of the major festivals in Igboland where the traditional rulers would be accessed for his previous works, which connotes if he should be encouraged to continue leading the people.
Ofala Festival as it's rightly called by Ndigbo, is regarded as the mandate renewal event to climax the previous achievements of the traditional rulers with the hope to continue for another calendar period .
Correspondent Bamidele Ajayi witnessed the Igwe of Aguleri's Ofala Festival and filed in this report .
History revealed that Ofala Festival started in the Onitsha Kingdom, now in Onitsha  LGA of Anambra, before it was exported to other communities in the state and now is being celebrated in major cities of Igboland.

Some traditional rulers also used the occasion to showcase their community rich Igbo traditions, while some use the event to reward deserving indigenes of the community who have feared well in their different field of endavour.
He disclosed this at this year Ofalafestival in Aguleri.
Some are of the opinion that Ofala Festival should be persevered as one of the revered Igbo custom that brings together Igbo sons and daughters home and abroad.
On the issue of decorating deserving indigenes, they urged leaders to sketch a framework where such reward would connote the essence of Ofala as an heritage of Igbo culture.
Correspondent gathered that the Igbo masquerade called ijele was recently adjudged as the largest masquerade on earth, which depicts the bogus nature of an Igbo man  in the continent and in the globe at large .
