ASUU Demands Full Payment of Salary Arrears From 2015 Till Date

THE Academic staff  Union of Universities has appealed to the federal and state governments to redress issues of salary shortfalls, delays in payment of salaries and non remittance of authorized deductions amounting to 128 million naira within 2015 till date yet to be paid to its members.
They resolved to reject any further cut on their salary and emolument of their members, if urgent step is not taken to redress what they called unlawful deduction without remittance.

The ASUU Owerri zone comprising of five universities in the south east zone made this public at a press conference in Awka, noted that that the union did embark on this media outreach to avert possible industrial disharmony if nothing is done to address the situation.
Addressing newsmen in Awka, the chairman, ASUU Owerri zone Comrade Ike Odimegwu lamented that the members have suffered untold hardship with the incessant salary deduction by their employers, which according to them deepens their sufferings, calling for an  urgent redress to avert possible industrial action.
Represented by the chairman ASUU Federal University of Technology Owerri FUTO, Comrade Uzochukwu Onyebinmama, demands the fulL payment of the outstanding shortfall of their salaries and remittance of all authorized deduction up to 28 months in order to avert the pending industrial disharmony in the universities.

While narrating their experiences, the members lamented the level of decay the personnel have gone through in the past months, urged  the federal and state governments to intervene to enable the members lift up to expectation as their members in the sub Saharan African states are currently enjoying.
The union however charged government to checkmate the unlawful deduction to protect their service rendering to the student and the growth of university education in Nigeria.
