Following the heavy downpour few days ago, the watershed outlet at Ekwulobia along the newly completed Ekwulobia - Ezinifite Road experienced overbearing flood action leading to the failure of the water outlet and wash off of a small portion of the tar shouders.
The major causes of the failure as discovered during an inspection tour this morning are: the blockage of the drainage with drums for sand excavation which led to flood running on the newly tarred road; and low capacity culvert constructed by the contractor to serve as the water outlet.
Thus, the traditional ruler of the town who was part of the inspection team has assured that the youths will be stopped from blocking the drains henceforth, while the contractor handling the road has been directed to immediately fix the failed portion and rebuild the water outlet by installing a bigger capacity culvert and drains.
Pictures below show the inspection team on tour; a view of the completed road; the failed drainage; and sand excavation sites.
As the government endeavours to bring dividends of democracy to the people through #ObianoEffect, it's part of our civic responsibility to ensure that these projects are protected.
Let's avoid any action that obstructs free flow of water through the drainage...
Flood Kills!
