Anambra state government has
confirmed record of one female nursing student death of Lassa fever, while placed 65 persons
who had contact with the deceased on surveillance.
It disclosed that the deceases was a
student nurse in one Immaculate private nursing school Onitsha, who resort to
self medication before it went out of care and later transferred to the Anambra
state teaching hospital Amaku for proper diagnosis.
Narrating the incident to newsmen in
Awka, the director public health, Anambra state ministry of health, Dr. Emmanuel
Okafor revealed that the deceased was brought to the state teaching hospital,
manifesting some Lassa fever symptoms, before she was later taken to Iruo diagnosis
centre in Edo state, where she finally died.
He disclosed further that the state
government has begun contacts tracing and so far placed 65 persons on surveillance,
while 2 are currently on their suspicious list with several others on proper routen
checks to ascertain their health development.
The state ministry of health
cautioned the people to keep their food and kitchen utensils off rodents reach.
Dr. Okafor further warned that the people should maintain cleanliness always by making sure
they wash their hands regularly and ensuring they cook their food properly to
be free from any epidemiology disease.
