Lawan said this in an interview with State House correspondents after joining Buhari for Jumat at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Osinbajo had on Thursday, at a security summit organised by the Senate, said having state police was the way to go.
When asked if he was in support of Osinbajo’s position, Lawan said, “As a member of the ad hoc committee on security and the review of security infrastructure in Nigeria, I believe that the suggestion by the Vice-President that we should have state police and even consider community policing, is a very good suggestion and we are going to take it on board in the National Assembly.”
Lawan expressed the confidence that the outcome of the summit, which ends on Monday, would go a long way in solving the country’s security problems.
“In fact, that committee should have been constituted a long time ago because the APC is plagued by some internal issues and I believe that these are issues that are surmountable.
“The Tinubu-led committee will definitely add value to the move to reconcile the warring sides, so to speak.
“Time is against us, we have to really kick-start this process of reconciliation immediately and I believe that as a family, we should be able to come out much more united than we were before,” he said.
Meanwhile, the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Friday stated that the National Assembly and the state Houses of Assembly must do the right things for Nigerians to have confidence in the legislature.
He also urged clerks to the federal and state legislatures to live above board in order to strengthen the legislature and restore confidence in the institutions they represent.
Saraki, who gave the charge while declaring open the 9th Meeting of Clerks to National and State Houses of Assembly in Abuja, also stated that the strength of Nigeria’s democracy lied in the legislature.
He said, “If we want to win the trust of Nigerians, we ourselves need to do the right thing.”
