The singer had filed a N200 million lawsuit against the firm for using his song, Mosorire, in its popular reality show, Nigerian Idol, without his consent. Paul maintained that the defendants had used his hit song to promote their TV show, Nigerian Idol in 2012 and 2013.
He also alleged that during the show, a contestant was made to reproduce his song without his express permission as the owner of the song.
In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Paul Play alleged that he made several attempts to resolve the issue to no avail before taking legal action. He said, “I did not go to the court on Monday but I was there during the previous hearing. Several attempts were made to settle the issue out of court, but it didn’t yield positive results. I had to head for the court. The last time I was in court, I was shocked to see that five cases were in court on copyright infringement before mine. I think it is high time this stopped. It is getting too much and people are being robbed of their sweat.”
He added, “I have done what I needed to do and I leave the rest in God’s hands. I know that the case is very clear; it is a case of someone using your music without your consent. The situation is not difficult to understand.”
Speaking on why he stopped being a judge on reality shows, the Angel of my Life singer replied, “I was just a guest judge on Project Fame and West African Idol, but I did three years at Star Quest reality show. I have also worked as a judge on other reality shows too.”
