Bizman pays medical bills, gives scholarship to quintuplets detained in hospital

A humanitarian act by a kind hearted Nnewi-born philanthropist cum industrialist, Chief Louis Carter Onwugbenu(Okpata Ozuora Nnewi)yesterday drew tears of joy from the eyes of those present at the God's Mercy Maternity Home, Obiuno-Otolo, Nnewi when he cleared the huge medical bills of a set of quintuplets -4 boys and a girl born to a 40-year old Keke operator Mr Abuchi Odo-Ezugwu and his wife, Ndidi, 30.

The matron and proprietor of the maternity-Blessing Odoemena who was full of praises for Onwugbenu and she also confirmed the babies and their mother were in top health.

Mr Odo-Ezugwu a native of Okpaligbo-Ogu, in Nsukka confirmed that having sets of twins run in his family from his parents, brothers and sisters. That he had only seven thousand (N7,000) on July 27,2018 when the babies arrived which made him imagined running away. He thanked the proprietor of the Louis Carter Foundation for his intervention. The babies were named Akachukwu, Chiemelie, Chidiomimi, Chinweolu and Ezinwanne.

Chief Onwugbenu, a Papal knight of St Gregory the Great with a special personal commendation from the pontiff is reputed for such humanitarian interventions dated back to 1987 when he first rescued from hospital and issued a lifetime scholarship to a set of quintuplets in Enugu. They have all graduated from the university and are presently involved in different successful human endeavours.

A man of few words, Onwugbenu, who is presently holidaying overseas in the United States of America (USA)along with his family, while fielding questions from journalists on the phone regretted his inability to personally receive the new babies.

He was Represented by a member of the Louis Cater Foundation, Mrs Monica Chukwuemeka he presented the cash for the clearance of the babies' medical bills and announced their instant adoption into his education foundation upto the university.

He said that parental upbringing and life's lessons have imbued him with humility, honesty and sacrifice as a guiding standard.

Hear him, "My watchword remains honesty, hardwork, diligence, transparency and fear of God inculcated early in me by my parents and the Catholic Priests who I lived with and who collectively brought me up and shaped my life.

"I believe God and he has been faithful to me because favour and fortune have continued to smile on me", Onwugbenu stated.

He said visiting the less privileged and doing humanitarian works had remained Cardinal aspect of his annual birthday anniversary celebrations. So taking up these set of quintuplets are part of my 65th Birthday anniversary celebration on August 15 (Assumption Day). He also sponsored the special competition of the Block Rosary of the Uruagu zone of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi where prizes were won. Thanking God almighty for his life, family and these children, the parish priest of St Louis Church Parish, Uruagu Rev Fr Raphael Ebedagu, who said the sermon urged other rich citizens to emulate Onwugbenu.

The popular industrialist had similarly in 2014 adopted another set of quintuplets who were delivered at the Nnewi University Teaching hospital by an applicant housewife from Awuda-Nnobi, thirty year-old, Mrs Chiamaka Eze Udenyi.

Mrs Eze Udenyi, was then an unemployed 2009 graduate of Microbiology from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli.

She was all praises for the benefactor for his kindness and love for her family especially the children.
