Anambra berates inclusion in Yellow Fever Infected States

Anambra government says it has not recorded another reported case of Yellow fever case this year, aside the 7-year-old boy from Umunachi-Mgbaku in Awaka North Local Government of the state  
The government said it have increase surveillance and provide improve awareness creation in all the 179 communities that includes disease control agent equip with modern detective gadget to ascertain the prevalence of infectious disease in the communities.
Yellow fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic fever caused by a Flavivirus and transmitted by  infected Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes. The 'yellow' in it's name stems from the yellowish colouration of the eyes of infected individuals.

Addressing newsmen in Awka, the Anamrba state commissioner for health, Jeosaphat Akabuike said the 7-year-old boy has been treated , noting that the state has instituted  several disease control mechanism to arrest the further epidemics.
Akabuike expressed disappointment that despite the vast human resources Nigeria possesses in the health industry, the country still relies on sending samples to a reference laboratory in Dakar, Senegal, to confirm yellow fever outbreak.
He disclosed that the state government has gone ahead to take the disease control mechanism as epidemic and has instituted a disease surveillance network that comb every community to sieve out any of such cases to immediate response to avert its spread.  
While speaking on the state efforts to prevent LASSA Fever disease outbreak in the, the health commission said the state has continued to retrain disease control officer and morticians to be as a veritable framework to prevent disease outbreak and provide enhance awareness network to educate the residents to maintain simple basic hygiene.
It would be recalled that the Nigeria's Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), reports that a IT yellow fever outbreak is currently active in Nigeria. Confirmed cases have been recorded in 14 States: Kwara, Kogi, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Niger, Katsina, Edo, Ekiti, Rivers, Anambra, FCT, and Benue; and all healthcare workers are particularly advised to be cautious and alert in their dealings with individuals, especially those coming from the affected states and presenting with the classical signs and symptoms of yellow fever.
