It took soldiers of the Nigeria military about an hour on Sunday night to repel what would have been one of the deadliest attack on the University of Maiduguri, in Borno state.
Suspected Boko Haram fighters made an attempt to infiltrate the university through it's back fence but met a stiff resistance from the soldiers guarding the perimeters of the institution.
But female students in the campus whose hostels were located at the extreme ends of the university said "the attack had come so close."
Some students of the university say
most of them had to lay down in their hostel rooms to avoid being hit by a bullet.
A senior military officer told journalists that the attack had been staved off.
But the Governor of Borno state, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, had to defy security concerns of his aides to visit the campus.
The governor was said to have met the university management during his visit. But details of his visit which might not be unconnected with the foiled attack, hasn't been made public.
End.
