EFCC, Commercial Banks Officials Meet to Fight Fraud, Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing in Sokoro

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, says the commission is seeking an effective and robust collaboration with financial institutions aim at  checkmating illicit financial transaction, money laundering, terrorism financing and fraudulent activities 


The Zonal head in charge of the Sokoto Zonal office Bawa Kaltingo stated this in an interactive session with compliance officers of major commercial banks operating in Sokoto.


Mr. kaltingo says there is need for a good working relationship and a robust collaboration between. The commission and the commercials banks..


He says the commission need the cooperation's of the financial institutions in carrying out investigation on issues bordering of fraud, money plundering and terrorism financing.


According to him prompt response of the banks to demand of the commission during investigation may help in frustrating activities of fraudsters.


He plead with the officials of the banks to play by the rule and ensure compliance to extant laws provided yo checkmate activities of fraudsters and those taking advantage of the banking system to finance terrorism in different parts of the country. 



Mr. Kaltingo task the bank officials to always query their data and monitor activities in their branches, saying the commission through the cooperation of banks officials discovered one a billion naira deposited in the account of a civil servant in Sokoto.


He says people like this may be using such account to finance terrorism and other crime in the country and to check such activities, the banks need to cooperate with the commission and other regulation agencies.
