We've cleared salary, promotion arrears from 2017 owed by previous administrations -FNHE

 

The management, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu (FNHE)says it is up to date in the payment of salaries of workers in the institution noting that "in effect, it has cleared the salary arrears as well as promotion arrears owed workers from 2017 by previous administrations".


The Medical Director of the Hospital, Prof Monday Igwe made the statement in an interview on the sideline of the just concluded 22nd AGM/Scientific Conference in Enugu "Coal City 2022" with theme "Nurses Exodus and Nigeria's Healthcare System: Who will bell the cat.


The event which was the assemblage of Heads of Nursing and Nursing Services Department and Principals of Schools in Federal Health Institutions advocated for a policy for nurses to practice for a minimum number of years in the country before being allowed to travel abroad.


Prof Igwe explained that the conference would produce a framework to tackle the menace of massive exodus of nurses to the outside world.


He added that his administration was working hard to ensure that the hospital maintained it's status of been the centre of Excellency in providing mental health to the entire south east of Nigeria.


"The Management of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital under me is doing everything possible to maintain the status of this institution as centre of Excellency that is comparable to other psychiatric hospitals across Nigeria.


"We have cleared the salary arrears owed from 2017 as well as promotion arrears from 2022 has been paid. Our workers are not owed salary arrears, we are up to date in the area of payment of salaries", he said.


Igwe noted that his administration studied mistakes of his successors to work out a better way to run the affairs of the institution.


"We analysed the past mistakes of the previous administrations, saw where they didn't do well and we keyed into the areas that can make us improve on our achievement in the entire management affairs.


"This place was previously viewed where nothing could work because it was characterised by chaos, strive, turssle and crisis which bedeviled the institution.


"We have now achieved cool level playing ground where workers are now enjoying cordial working relationship.


"We are bringing our colleagues, professional nurses who are heading Institutions to see that what is obtainable here are far better what they are offering in there own institutions.


"We want to let people know that what we have been saying about this place is a reality.


"FNHE is now a a centre of Excellency in providing mental health to the entire south east of Nigeria.


"We have the mandate to provide training for those that want to be psychiatric nurses, and doctors. We have mandate of giving clinical services and research", he said.


Highpoint of the conference was the award of various categories to dignitaries who thronged the event from different parts of the country including the medical director of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu.
