Inhabitants of Kwakuti-Dajigbe villages area of Lambata, and some communities around Gurara LGA in Niger state came under attack by terrorists on Saturday morning.
Men of the Nigerian police force and organised locle vigilante groups came to the rescue and engaged the terrorists in a gun duel.
According to reports by police public relations officer DSP Wasiu Abiodun scores of terrorists were neutralised as the police repelled the attack and 5 police officers were killed including a DPO.
The commissioner of police in charge of Niger state command CP Ogundele Ayodeji, reportedly led a reinforcement team to the scene and recovered the bodies of the deceased personnel. He condoles with the families of the affected personnel and reassures members of the public that the Command will not relent in the fight against banditry and other criminality in the State
