Anambra Youth Commander Renovates Dilapidated UNIZIK SUG Complex After 18 Years of Neglect

After eighteen years of neglect and abandonment, succor has finally come the way of the dilapidated Student Union Government SUG complex of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Giant House.

This is as the Anambra Youth Commander and Chairman/ CEO of Pool King Global Investment Limited, Hon. Gabriel Chukwunwendu, has commenced the renovation of the structure.

It was gathered that the building which houses the offices for the members of the SUG executives including the Legislative arm of the SUG had been abandoned for a very long time, resulting in inability of the student Union body to access it for meetings and proceedings.

However, on Wednesday last week, the Anambra State Youth Commander, Hon Chukwunwendu had visited the facility on the invitation of the UNIZIK SUG President and upon seeing the massive infrastructural decay, immediately promised to commence the renovation of the structure.

Speaking on Monday when he inspected the on-going renovation which had gotten to an advanced stage, the State Youth Commander, Hon. Chukwunwendu explained that he decided to embark on the project as his way of promoting the ‘Think-Home’ philosophy in Anambra State, where individuals invest in turning things around. 

According to him, the project is also a way of giving back to the society, having underscored the need to strengthen the Students’ Union in the University. 

In his words, ”This ‘Akuluo uno’ (think-home) initiative is a campaign I have been championing even before the advent of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration.

“I think our people should also start thinking in that direction to always think home first. Come home and check what is happening in your hometown. It will help you know where you can come in.”

The Anambra Youth Commander who expressed satisfaction with the work already accomplished by the contractor handling the renovation project, promised to see to the completion of the project.

Speaking during the inspection, Surv. Obi Emeka Chukwudi , the Anambra State Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria {NYCN}, described the Youth Commander as a lover of  Youths, who has taken so many initiatives towards advancing the course of Youths in the state. 

He outlined the things he has done for the youths which include provision of educational scholarships, Skill acquisition initiatives, and empowerment of 20 Youths with Point of Sales PoS machines and seed capital to start up their business. 

Surveyor Obi Emeka also advised well- meaning Anambrarians to emulate what the youth state commander was doing and also join hands in making Anambra State a better place for the youth. 

“We want everybody, well- meaning Anambrarians to embrace what he is doing and join hands so that Anambra would be a better place for the Youths,” he said.

The Managing Director Falcon Nests Project Limited, Ambassador Ifechi Martins who described Hon. Chukwunwendu as a close friend to him, saying that the on-going renovation exercise is a commendable one at that.

On his part, the senate minority leader at the UNIZIK SUG, Sen. Nathaniel Victory, who spoke on behalf of the SUG, noted that the on-going exercise is a welcomed development that will ensure a viable students union in the University.
