Anambra State Commissioner for Health Dr. Ben Afam Obidike says Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is increasing access to quality and affordable healthcare judging from the transformations in the health sector.
Speaking exclusively with this journalist at Golden Tulip Hotel Agulu Anaocha council area during an event recently, Obidike said a lot have been achieved in the health sector within two years of the present administration.
He said over 60,000 women have benefited from the state government free antenatal and child delivery services together with free cesarian sessions (CS) which he said cost close to a million naira in private hospitals.
The Commissioner explained that the construction of five new general hospitals as well as the renovations ongoing in the primary healthcare centres coupled with the recruitment of almost a thousand healthcare workers were all concrete evidence that the present state government is meeting the health needs of the populace.
He noted that the construction of five new general hospitals in local government areas that never had was increasing access to quality and affordable healthcare services especially for those at the grassroots.
Obidike stated that one new general hospital has been built and completed in Okpoko Ogbaru council area where they never had one in the past. He said Fegge general hospital Onitsha-South was ongoing coupled with Orometiti general hospital which is currently being built.
He also mentioned that the construction of Enugwu-Otu and Ayamelum general hospitals were ongoing simultaneously to be completed within this year even as he disclosed that the state government is building a nursing school at Ekwulobia Aguata Local Government Area which he said would be one of the best nursing schools in the country when completed.
The health commissioner also disclosed that Ekwulobia, Enugwu-Ukwu and Umueri general hospitals have been upgraded too for better services as well as to increase access to quality and affordable healthcare, adding that the government of Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is doing its best to ensure unhindered access to quality healthcare services to Ndi-Anambra.
