By Peter Nwasike

A female Journalist, Lady Nkoli Ugboma, Correspondent of Courage Managine, Lagos, and also On-line Publisher in U-TUBE, was involved in Road Accident, with a commercial motor-cyclist (Okada Rider), along Awka- Ekwulobia Road, at the front of Golden Turlip Hotel, Agulu, in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, on Saturday, May 25, 2024.

The Journalist, in company of some journalists,  went on news-coverage, for an event hosted  by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), with the  objective of sensitizing their members on the role of Political Parties for grass-root  mobilization,  for good governance.

After  the occasion, the journalists, came in front  of the main gate of Golden  Turlip Hotel, Agulu, which was sloppy, with vehicles  descending in furious speed.  Narrating the incident  to journalists. Lady Nkoli said that there was a commercial bus, parked at the opposite side of the Hotel, heading to Awka,  and the driver was off-loading  goods for a passenger. They crossed to the side of the  bus, and waited for the driver  to let them into the vehicle, for onward  return  to Awka. As they were waiting by the  side of the road,  a commercial motor-cyclist (Okada Rider), carrying passenger, and  descending the hill with reckless speed.  As she saw the reckless driving, she  scampered away,  but the motor-cycle hit her right  leg, and fractured the leg, and she feel down, knocking her fore-head on the ground. The wound she sustained  made her lost much blood, with herself lying in the pool of her own blood.

Her fellow journalists, who also attended  the event  hosted by APGA,  helped  her and rushed her to St. Joseph’s Catholic Hospital, Adazi, for treatment. The Journalist, namely, Nwabueze Okonkwo of Vanguard Newspaper, Emeka Okonkwo of Anambra Voice magazine,  Prince Anthony, Camera-man for Nkoli, also forced the Okada Rider to ride his vehicle to the hospital. The following day,  Sunday, May 26, 2024, two of the journalist, Emeka Okonkwo and Prince Anthony,  reported the case to the Police Headquarters, Neni, in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State. Who came and impounded the motorcycle, and kept in their  Headquarters, at Neni, for further investigation.

The Hospital consulted their Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon, who performed bone-setting surgery on the accident victim.

When the Specialist Surgeon, Dr. Okafor was contacted, he testified that his patient is responding to treatment, and prescribed that the patient should be given meticulous care, both in medicinal and balanced food for holistic recovery soon.

In fact, the cost of treatment, both in medicinal and diets, are exorbitant, and requires interventions, from individual and group  Philanthropists. At the time of filling this report, the Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Anthony Ugorji (Ozo Chukwukwadolu), has been contacted by this reporter, and he expressed sympathy about  the accident. He graciously consented to the appeal by this reporter, to visit  the accident victim, in the Hospital, in the virtues of the motto of APGA: “BE YOUR BROTHER’S/SISTER’S KEEPER (ONYE AGHANA NWANNE YA).

It is hoped that as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), is the ruling political party of Government of Anambra State, they shall sympathetically, compassionately, generously, magnanimously, apply the “SOCIAL WELFARE RESPONSIBILITY OF GOVERNMENT” and also of politics and respond to the case with desired sensitivity.
