ASATU Prime Minister Takes Southeast Security Issues To National Assembly

BY RAYMOND OZOJI,  Awka

The Deputy Commander-General (technical operations) of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) and Prime Minister of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Amb. Dr. John Metchie has taken security issues plaguing the Southeast region of Nigeria to the National Assembly.

Metchie who was on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Staff of the Senate president, Chief Barr. Sylvester Okonkwo, amongst numerous other issues, harped on the need for more concerted efforts as well as proactive measures to stem the tide of insecurity in the Southeast region and the nation at large.

The ASATU Prime Minister who also functions as the President-General of Umueri General Assembly in Anambra-East Local Government Area of Anambra State, opined that the economy of the South-East is being threatened by insecurity resulting to capital flights and due to unstable atmosphere.

Although he commended the National Assembly especially the Senate for legislations intended to foster peaceful coexistence where the security of lives and property would be guaranteed, he also suggested that the formalization and inclusion of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) in the nation's security architecture through presidential assent, would be another veritable alternative to the fight against insecurity in the South-East and the country in general.

Metchie told the Senate president's aide that in Anambra State, government and presidents-general are working round the clock to ensure security of lives and property in the communities.

Meanwhile the Chief of Staff to the Senate president Barr. Sylvester Okonkwo, praised as well as commended Amb.John Metchie for his efforts in supporting and encouraging government policies and programmes for a better Nigeria.
