Keyamo Urges Calm as Aviation Workers Threaten Strike

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation, has urged the ministry's workers’ unions to postpone their planned strike and nationwide protests set to begin on August 21, 2024.

The call for action, announced on Thursday, is detailed in a letter dated August 14, 2024, titled “Save Aviation From Collapse,” which highlights concerns over the 50 percent deductions from the internally generated revenue of key aviation agencies.

In response, Keyamo issued a statement on his official X handle on Friday, asking workers to "remain calm and maintain industrial peace while the government works diligently to resolve the issue."

The Minister acknowledged the importance of the issues raised and the crucial role of aviation workers in maintaining industry safety and efficiency. He reassured them that the Ministry is dedicated to addressing these challenges to ensure the sector's sustainability and high service standards.

Keyamo also conveyed that President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned about the aviation sector's improvement and will carefully consider the workers' demands to find a balanced and lasting solution that addresses both government fiscal needs and aviation operational requirements.
